The Deadly Air Quality & COVID

Living in a metro city somehow teaches all to deal with the worse, like the current deterring air quality which is stooping a new low with each passing day. The air quality index of Delhi NCR area deteriorated to the “severe” category making it even deadlier to cope with the current situation. This year the pollution situation is more alarming as it has been linked to the deaths due to COVID19.

The pollution leads to pre-conditions making one more sensitive to the severe development of COVID and succumbing to death. Those with pre-existing lung diseases, asthma and heart ailments are particularly vulnerable to breathing distress as the pollution levels rise.

The bad air quality can make the virus stick to particulate matter and infiltrate the lungs. So, as the pollution level rises the possibility of transmission. Therefore, it is seen that congested areas have more number of cases being detected. When the COVID situation began the air quality was recorded as one of the best for the past years. This year the challenges due to pollution have gone up by many folds as it is not just about the existing problems due to pollution that bothers all, but the unknown evil – COVID19.

The air pollution hampers the immunity of a person making one prone to multiple problems in the body leading to ailments in future. Now, it has become even more important for one to keep their immunity levels high without letting the surroundings affect your day to day activities. Also, the winter season adds up to the situation making it easier for the pollution & particles to stay in our surroundings for a longer duration.

The only way to combat the situation is to up your immune system by having healthy meals and performing breathing exercises regularly. And wear a mask, preferably N-95 to combat the pollution situation for staying safe and healthy.

Don’t let your guards down as the virus is still there without any vaccine yet to help us survive the virus. Make the best of all we have got and stay safe till you have an option.
