Yuvraj Singh pulls down the curtain to his 19 years of career in the international cricket!
The pugnacious left-hander has played 40 test matches, 111 One day internationals (ODI’s) and 58 T20 internationals (T20i) for India.
SOME OF HIS CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:
Under 19 world cup in the year 2000 – India won its first ever under 19 world cup in the year 2000, kudos to the star performer Yuvraj Singh. His all-rounder performance made him the player of the tournament and also got him a call-up to the national squad. Yuvraj scored 203 runs and was able to take 12 wickets in 8 matches. His capabilities did not stop here and he was able to score a quick-fire 58 runs off 25 balls against Australia in the semi-finals. Thereafter, he made his debut in the ICC Champions Trophy against Australia.
NatWest Trophy 2002 – In the NatWest trophy finals of 2002, Yuvraj played a major role in one of the most iconic moments in the history of Indian cricket scene. Chasing a score of 326, India was struggling at 146/5 when Yuvraj along with Mohammad Kaif started rebuilding the innings. They were able to stitch a 121 run partnership which ensured India’s win. Yuvraj scored 69 runs off 63 balls in India’s famous win.
T20 World Cup 2007 – Yuvraj was at his best form during the T20 world cup of 2007. He was able to score some fantastic knocks of 58 off 16 balls and 70 off 30 balls only against England and Australia respectively.
Yuvraj Singh smashed England’s Stuart Broad with six sixes in an over! He also holds the record of hitting the biggest six of 119 meters.
ICC World Cup 2011 – The World Cup of 2011 turned into the biggest act, and ended up like a dream tournament for the Indian cricket team and Yuvraj Singh. He scored a massive score of 362 runs in matches at a staggering average of 90.50 with one century and four half-centuries. He also impressed his fans with his bowling and he claimed 15 wickets including two in the final match played at the Wankhede stadium. Yuvraj was named as the player of the tournament.
Fighting against all odds – Despite against his face off with a disease like cancer that has taken lives of millions. Yuvraj with his will power and prayers of millions of his fans was able to fight the disease and get back on track. Yuvraj has been a true inspiration and an idol for many of the young cricketers. Our young hero Yuvraj Singh was inspired by Lance Armstrong who has made many records in his career and was also diagnosed with the same kind of tumour in 1996. Yuvraj Singh was treated by the same doctor as Lance Armstrong. During his time in the U.S, he read the autobiography of Lance Armstrong for motivation and help him through his treatment.
Back to Pavilion – Yuvraj made his come back with the twenty-twenty against New Zealand in September 2012 and is still the star of the Indian Cricket. The way our hero fought his battle and came back stronger, makes him an inspiration for many. The young blooded cricketers admire him and wish to excel like him as a cricketer!
