World’s Top 10 Most Powerful Passports – Check out India’s Rank

A passport? It’s like having VIP access to worldwide experiences! It’s the secret to casually crossing borders and exploring new vistas. Have you heard of the Henley Passport Index? It’s like the Oscars for passports, with nations ranked according to their residents’ ability to travel freely. So are you ready for a whirlwind tour of the world’s most impressive passports?

The Henley Passport Index assesses passports based on how many countries its holders may visit without a visa before arrival. This rating is based on data from the International Air Transport Authority, which manages the world’s largest and most accurate travel information database.

The Henley Passport Index ranks passports based on a thorough process that takes into account a variety of characteristics. These include the number of countries a passport bearer may travel to without a visa, the country’s diplomatic ties, and its international treaties. Countries which have strong diplomatic and positive international relations obtain a higher rank since they offer their citizens extensive visa-free access to other countries.

Back in 2006, the typical person could visit 58 countries without a visa. Today, the list has grown to 111 destinations. Over the last year, French, German, Spanish, and Italian people have received visa-free travel to three more nations.

Is India one of the most powerful passports in the world?

As of May 2024, India ranks 81st on the list of the world’s most influential passports, alongside Gabon and São Tomé & Príncipe. Individuals with an Indian passport can visit 61 places without a visa. In terms of neighbouring nations, Pakistan is at 106th rank, unchanged from last year, while Bangladesh has dropped from 101st to 102nd. Notably, the Maldives has risen far above India, placing 58th, with Maldivian passport holders able to travel visa-free to 96 countries.
