It is said that history repeats itself. Two years ago, 2017, Nozomi Okuhara, a Japanese badminton player, sealed her position with defeating P.V.Sindhu. It was and still is one of the greatest matches in the history of badminton. Even though Sindhu lost to Okuhara in the finals, she was determined to win a gold medal and was confident to win it in 2019. Her hard work, determination and focus paid off during the game. It was seen during her performance.
Our gem, P.V. Sindhu earned her name in history by winning a gold medal at the World Champions 2019. She’s become the first ever Indian to win the eminent BWF World Champions. BWF World Championships is a badminton tournament which was held from 19 to 25 August 2019at St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland.
P.V. Sindhu had won silver medals consecutively at the great tournaments apart from winning a bronze. Her eyes were aiming for gold. In the semifinals, she defeated the all England champion Chen Yu Fei of China, in just 40 minutes at the semifinals. Sindhu clearly said, after the semifinals, that she is happy but not yet satisfied and still wants to win a gold medal in the next match.The semifinals was a simple cakewalk for her but the real challenge for her was the finals.
History repeated itself in 2019, when Sindhu defeated Okhuhara and won a gold medal. P.V. Sindhu showed the world that 2019 is not 2017! She took her revenge by winning the title of a world champion.
P.V. Sindhu defeated Nozomi Okhuhara at the Basel final in just 38 minutes! Gillian Clarke, a commenter remarked, “I can’t remember such a one sided final.”
Finally, the world had a world champion, P.V. Sindhu, who emerged as winner witha score of 21-7, One cannot say that Okuhara didn’t play well but Sindhu proved to be the winner. We can proudly say that 25TH AUGUST was P.V. Sindhu’s DAY.
