It is indeed a proud moment for all Indians as Mirabai Chanu clinches the first silver medal at Tokyo Olympics. It’s a memorable moment that our Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu clinched the silver on the first day of this big event. Mirabai Chanu has become the second Indian woman weightlifter after Karnam Malleswari (Bronze at the Sydney Games, 2000) to win an Olympic medal. She bagged the silver in the Women’s 49 kg category. The 26-year-old proud silver medalist has lifted a total of 202 kg (87kg+115 kg) at the weightlifting event. After a 21-year’s wait in weightlifting, it was the historical moment as she bagged the weightlifting medal.

Her best attempt was lifting 87 kg, and it was the 115 kg attempt that delivered her the silver in the clean and jerk event. On Twitter, (@mirabai_chanu) shared a heartfelt post after winning the silver medal and dedicating it to her country. For her, it feels like a dream come true.
