How to Take Care of Your Hands in COVID

COVID-19 has made it compulsory for us to keep washing our hands frequently as it is the only way that we know of which could help us stay immune to this disease. As there is nothing that we can do to replace washing our hands frequently, but due to this many of us have started to feel the problem of dry and cracked skin. In winters the dryness can grow even more intense leaving our hands in a not so good shape.

Be Gentle

Don’t use too cold water to wash your hands, rather use lukewarm water with soap as it won’t harm your skin by stripping it off the moisture. The natural barrier acts as a guard that prevents the skin from getting compromised leading to dryness, redness, itching, flaking, discomfort and even cracks in the skin.

Choose The Right Soap

It is as important as to choose the right soap as it is to wash your hands with soap. As many soaps contain harsh chemicals that not just strips the moisture, but also can be a cause for many skin related problems. Look for soaps with ingredients like glycerin and lanolin.

Keep them Moisturised

Moisturise your hands with something more on the greasier side like a petroleum gel (Vaseline) that forms a layer of moisturisation. You can apply a generous amount and that too when your hands are slightly moist after washing as it helps lock in the moisture. Make sure to use a fragrance-free moisturiser as it will have fewer chemicals to it.

Wear Gloves

Wearing gloves as per the need is important as using one while dealing with disinfectants or handling any harsh chemicals. Even while washing utensils a pair of reusable rubber gloves can come handy.

Overnight Treatment

You may wear a pair of cotton gloves after applying a nice layer of moisturiser, as it allows the moisturiser to work better for your hands. The overnight healing time makes it easier and convenient for all to have soft and moisturised hands.

Take care of your hands, and stay safe!
