How To Stay Fit With An Office Job

Source

It’s often been said — “Sitting is the new smoking!” — you probably know that sedentary lifestyle at your 9 to 5 desk job is making you heavier and sicker. Experts reveal how bad sitting can be for your health and it truly is a warning you should heed. If you think only sweaty workouts can keep you fit and healthy, then you are definitely mistaken. The damage done by sitting throughout your working hours cannot be substituted for a good workout after office hours and therefore, you need to also stay active at your desk job to sustain your health. Wondering how? There are many ways that can help you stay active and fit even when you are at work. Here are some tips to follow:

1. Walk As Much As Possible: Walking is the easiest and best way to stay fit and healthy provided that you are willing to take these small steps. Try to go for a short walk after having your lunch. If you drive to work, park farther away so you can walk your way to office. Take the stairs instead of escalators and elevators.

2. Move Around: A desk job does not mean that you cannot move at all! It’s important to break the habit of a sedentary lifestyle by getting up frequently. What you can probably do is instead of phoning a coworker in the office, walk to their desk in person. Also, do not forget to take time to get up and stretch whenever you can.

3. Don’t Skip Breakfast: The importance of breakfast is a known fact but amid the hectic morning routine, we often skip our first meal of the day. Your metabolism slows down when you’re asleep and eating a few hours shortly after you wake up helps boost your metabolism. Many studies have found that skipping breakfast increases your desire for fatty foods during lunch time. If you’re always in a rush, keep a box of cereal or instant oatmeal at your desk so you can eat while you work.

4. Drink Plenty of Water: Drinking 8-10 glasses of water throughout the day can promote weight loss and it also keeps diseases at bay. Water is also good for skin and by drinking plenty of water, you can avoid overeating. So, keep a bottle at your desk and drink it up. You can also have green tea instead of your regular tea and coffee.

5. Workout At Your Desk:

At-your-desk mini workouts, also known as Isometrics, are a great way to stay fit and active at work. You can try some stretching exercises too and there are a great set of tutorial videos that you can look for to get an idea.

Now when you know the ways to stay fit at a desk job, avoid making excuses for being unfit. These easy tips will not only help you stay in shape but will also keep you fresh and active throughout the day!
