The former Indian left-handed batsman Gautam Gambhir made a seamless transition from sports to Politics. He experienced a low in the initial phase of his career. He worked hard and played a very crucial role in two World Cups, T20 2007 World Cup and 2011 ICC World Cup. He established himself as a fighter and a true champion. He played 58 tests,149 ODIs and 37 T20s for India.
In 2010, he was signed for Delhi Daredevils where he became the only player to score more than 1000 runs in the series. In the same year he was then picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders in their team. He was once the highest paid cricketer in the history of IPL. After retiring from the game of Cricket in December 2018, he initiated his political career with BJP in March 2019.
He was awarded one of the fourth highest civilian award of the country, The Padma Shri award in 2019. His success is not limited to the field of cricket only but is also known for his social services. He is outspoken and speaks about the issues. His many tweets show his concern about what’s happening around him.
BJP announced him as their contender from the East Delhi constituency. He fought out with Aam Aadmi Party’s Atishi and Arvinder Singh Lovely from Congress Party who has been the Three-time MLA in the constituency. BJP replaced Mr. Maheish Girri with Gautam Gambhir. Mr. Girri won the election in 2014 from East Delhi. It is the most populated region of Delhi which covers the neighbourhoods such as Shahdara, Gandhi Nagar, Seelampur and Preet Vihar.
Gautam Gambhir won the East Delhi Loka Sabha seat defeating Arvinder Singh Lovely by over 3.9 Lakh votes and Atishi by 4.7 Lakh votes. Gambhir said that he had done and contributed whatever he could to the field of cricket and now is his opportunity to do something for the country.
