We’ve always been told to eat carrots, as they are good for our eyes. How true is this statement? Despite eating carrots, these days, most people are wearing glasses. Modern times has definitely tampered with our vision. We need to make severe changes in our diet, to improve our vision. There are a few pointers we can should take into consideration to avoid having bad vision.
Balanced Diet
Foods rich in antioxidants like Vitamins A and C, i.e. leafy, green vegetables and certain fish like salmon, should be included in our diet. These foods ensure the macula, the central vision of the eye, remains healthy. High-fat diets often cause certain deposits in the body that restrict the blood flow in the arteries. The eyes are especially sensitive to the deposits given the small size of the blood vessels that feed them.
Exercise
Exercises improve the blood flow within the body, which improves the oxygen levels to the eyes and helps remove toxins.
Sleep well at night
It is important for one to have good night’s sleep, to be able to be work at a stretch. Your eyes will be able to stay open and stay healthy.
Wash your hands
Keep your hands clean. In case you run your eyes with dirty hands, it could cause severe irritation or any some sort of infection.
If you wear lenses, you should definitely wash your hands with mild soap and dry them before touching it.
Say No to Smoking
Smoking exposes your eyes to a high level of oxidative stress. It leads to a variety of health issues that could affect the eye. It’s best avoid smoking.
Wear Sunglasses
It is important to protect our eyes from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays and so, sunglasses with both UVA and UVB protection should be worn.
Blue Light hazards
Use of digital devices for hours each day has become a part of life. They expose our eyes to the ill effecting high energy blue light. We should as much as possible, not keep staring at our screens for long hours and should constantly either close our eyes for a minute.
