The 76th Cannes Film Festival kicked off with a bang on May 16. The first day featured many memorable red-carpet looks from celebrities and attendees from across the world. Indian and Hollywood actresses and models, including Sara Ali Khan, Esha Gupta, Naomi Campbell, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Helen Mirren put their best fashion foot forward as they walked the red carpet in the French Riviera. Here are a few notable looks so far:
Sara Ali Khan
Sara Ali Khan marked her Cannes red carpet debut in a traditional look in an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla ivory lehenga. Sara looked gorgeous as she attended the premiere of Jeanne du Barry in a hand-embroidered multi-panel ivory skirt paired with exquisite crystals and a pearl-studded blouse. She finished her look with a long head veil pinned to her bun. She wore minimal makeup with her hair tied in a bun and just a pair of drop earrings.
Esha Gupta
Esha Gupta, known for her impeccable style, made a stunning appearance in a dreamy satin gown with exaggerated floral detailing. She was there as a part of the Indian government delegation. This was Gupta’s debut performance for which she chose a Nicolas Jebran couture thigh-high slit gown with dramatic collars and a plunging neckline covered in see-through mesh fabric.
Manushi Chhillar
Former Miss World and actor Manushi Chhillar debuted at the Cannes Film Festival representing Walkers and Co in a stunning white gown by Fovari. Her off-shoulder dress at the opening ceremony of the world’s biggest film festival had lace detailings and a long trail featuring frill details that swept the floor. She opted for wavy curls with a middle partition and minimal makeup.
Elle Fanning
Elle Fanning grabbed the spotlight wearing a cream and silver gown by Alexander McQueen. The orchid dress featured a corseted bodice with Paris net and a sparkly silver beading with crystal embroidery at the Jeanne du Barry premiere red carpet.
She made an appearance at the Hotel Martinez in a blue slip dress with a choker neckline and Cartier jewellery.
Naomi Campbell
Naomi Campbell made heads turn in a silver sequin Celine gown with a gathered fabric detailing at her waist and plunging neckline on the Cannes red carpet. She opted for a sleek look with her hair set straight attending the “Jeanne du Barry” screening and opening ceremony at the Cannes Film Festival. She completed her look with a dazzling Chopard bracelet and earrings. But what stole the show were her wide-frame white sunglasses and a metallic clutch.
Uma Thurman
Uma Thurman made her Cannes appearance in a Dior Haute Couture ballgown to cheer for Johnny Depp’s new movie, “Jeanne du Barry.” She was accompanied by her son Levon Thurman-Hawke. Uma sparkled in a pale rose gold satin evening gown with a wine-red satin jacket which gave an illusion of a tail. She matched her trail with a choker of a deeper shade and finished her look with an elegant messy bun.
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Catherine Zeta-Jones was accompanied by her husband Michael Douglas and daughter Carys Zeta-Jones, who made her debut appearance at the festival. Catherine donned an Elie Saab ensemble and coordinated with her daughter in Chopard jewels and Sarah Flint heels.
Fan Bingbing
Fan Bingbing arrived for the screening of the movie “Jeanne du Barry” in an intriguing nature-inspired printed Christoper Bu ball gown, which featured tree bark and several tigers among the sparse teal-coloured wilderness. She went for an interesting hairdo with a middle parting and a beautifully-layered updo.
Helen Mirren
The drama follows Helen Mirren like a shadow! This time at the Cannes Film Festival, the 77-year-old Oscar winner debuted blue hair to match her designer outfit, accessorised with a sole bliss heel, diamond jewellery and a paper fan that displayed the quirky hashtag “WorthIt”. Helen completed her look with a matching coloured manicure and pedicure.
Brie Larson
Brie wore a prestigious Chanel outfit to the screening of “Jeanne du Barry” at the Cannes Film Festival. Her stylist Samantha McMillen did a perfect job as she looked jaw-dropping on the red carpet. Brie embraced a partly sheer gold and white checkered jumpsuit and teamed it with a silver-and-gold-beaded starburst-design corset.
