Fashion’s biggest night-out- the Met Gala on May 1 was attended by the biggest names in fashion and movies- including Bollywood celebrities. The venue for the star-studded event was the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The Met Gala, regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious and glamorous fashion events, takes place on the first Monday of May each year.
Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt made her official debut at the event, looking like a vision in a white gown embellished with 1,00,000 pearls – a heavenly creation by Nepalese-American designer Prabal Gurung. Alia wanted to turn heads at the Met Gala wearing something authentic and proudly Made in India.
The theme for the 2023 edition was ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’- a heartfelt tribute to legendary German fashion designer and creative director Karl Lagerfeld. The guest list chose outfits from the creative genius’s gigantic catalogue at Fendi, Chanel, Balmain, Chloé, Patou, and his brand. The event was hosted and live-streamed by Vogue.
Indian celebrities, including Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla, and Divya Mehta Jatia, sprinkled stardust as they hit the red carpet. Priyanka Chopra Jonas: Desi Girl Priyanka Chopra walked the red carpet with her husband, Nick Jonas, striking in a matching monochromatic outfit. Jonas donned a black suit from Valentino paired with chunky black shoes; Priyanka was ravishing in a black Maison Valentino outfit, a beautiful strapless all-black gown with a big bow and a thigh-high slit. The show-stealer was her necklace that featured a single stone– the Bulgari Laguna Blu diamond cost a humongous 2.5 crores.
Alia Bhatt: Actor-producer Alia Bhatt made a breathtaking entrance in an ivory ball gown by ace designer Prabal Gurung. The new mom’s much-awaited Met Gala look was a piece of art.
Isha Ambani: Entrepreneur and daughter of business tycoon Mukesh Ambani looked like a dream in a black saree gown by Prabal Gurung, embellished with hundreds of pearls, gems, and stones and accessorised with a rare Chanel Doll clutch costing a whopping 24 lakhs.
Natasha Poonawalla: It was the fourth Met Gala event for Natasha, who wore a ‘Celeb Approved’ silver metallic gown paying tribute to Choupette- the beloved cat of Karl Lagerfeld. The body-hugging gown with a cut-out torso pattern jutted above her shoulders, resembling a cat’s ears. Her Instagram post was flooded with compliments. “Omggg stunningggg,” Malaika Arora commented on her Instagram post.
Diya Mehta Jatia: Diya, fashion consultant and sister of Shloka Mehta, nailed her look at the gala, stunning in a Prabal Gurung black and green, the emerald green skirt swirling as she moved. She opted for Ashoka by William Goldberg earrings to complete her look and went desi with her hair accessories- an embellished Radha-Krishna temple hair accessory, truly a show stealer.
