In a shocking turn of events, popular Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra West residence in Mumbai during an attempted burglary in the early hours of January 16, 2025. The attack has left the entertainment industry and fans of the actor stunned. According to police reports, an unidentified intruder bypassed security and entered Khan’s home around 2:30 am, confronting a maid before the actor intervened. In the ensuing struggle, Khan sustained six stab wounds, including two deep injuries—one dangerously close to his spine.
Saif Ali Khan, his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their sons reside in a 12-storey building in Bandra West, spread across four floors. Police investigations indicate the attacker intended to commit burglary. The intruder reportedly climbed a wall from a neighbouring compound and used a rear staircase to reach Khan’s floor, gaining access to the apartment via a fire escape.
The Bollywood actor’s house help, Eliyama Phillipes (Lima), reportedly spotted the intruder around 2 am and raised an alarm, prompting Khan to confront the attacker. A struggle ensued, during which the intruder stabbed Khan six times before fleeing. CCTV footage captured the intruder entering and exiting the building from the rear. Police are questioning the house help and others. Questions have been raised about the response of the security guards and how the intruder accessed the home undetected.
Doctors at Lilavati Hospital have confirmed that Saif Ali Khan is out of danger and recovering well after surgery, though close monitoring is needed. His family, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sara Ali Khan, Ibrahim Ali Khan, Soha Ali Khan, and Kunal Khemu, are by his side.
Police have identified a suspect, and multiple teams are working to apprehend him. Meanwhile, authorities are waiting for Khan’s condition to stabilise further before recording his statement. Initial accounts have been taken from his family members. The Bandra Police confirmed that fingerprints have been collected, and CCTV footage is under review. Investigators suspect the attacker may have ties to someone familiar with the household staff, and multiple teams are working on the case.

Politicians also reacted sharply—AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal criticised the BJP over public safety and referenced gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, alleging protection from authorities. Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi questioned Mumbai’s safety and suggested a pattern of targeting prominent figures, while Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad criticised the state government, highlighting the incident’s occurrence in a typically secure Bandra neighbourhood.
