Indian government’s power moves after the Pulwama attacks

14th of February 2019 marked a day in the history of our nation which will never be forgotten. A cowardly attack co-ordinated by Pakistan based and sponsored terror group “Jaish E Muhammad” led to more than 40 CRPF personnel attaining martyrdom. By using 350 kilos of RDX, this was the biggest attack carried out on Indian security forces in Kashmir in the past 20 years.

Once the chaos on ground had settled, the entire population including the families of the bravehearts we lost had their eyes locked on the Indian govt. to see what kind of retaliation would be carried out by the same. Retaliate it did and with intensity and vigour at that. Here are some of the power moves made by the Indian govt. in the aftermath of the Pulwama attacks.

1.  Security revoked from all separatist leaders in the valley

Time and again the militancy in Kashmir has proven that if it needs to be eliminated, it is the root cause that needs to be targeted. In a long overdue move, the Indian state removed all security cover given to separatist leaders who supported extremism and militancy under the garb of democracy.

2. Withdrawal of MFN (Most Favoured Nation) status from Pakistan

A powerful diplomatic statement, India removed the most favoured nation status from Pakistan and henceforth levied an import duty of 200% on all goods being imported into India from Pakistan. This has greatly affected Pakistan economically and has left many traders in haste, making it clear that countries who sponsor and support terrorism will have to bear the brunt of the retaliation.

3.  Suspension of all visas, including medical visas

The process of suspending all Pakistani visas started soon after the Pulwama attacks. A lot of people come to India from Pakistan seeking medical treatment which is world class in nature, provides facilities far from imaginable in their home country and at a significantly lower cost as compared to other foreign nations. By suspending such visas India has led to the general public of Pakistan to pressurising the country to change their policy of using terror as a tool.

4.  Cutting down water flowing into Pakistan

The minister of water resources Mr. Nitish Gatkari tweeted “Our government has decided to stop our share of water which used to flow to Pakistan. We will divert water from eastern rivers and supply it to our people in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.” Thereby making it clear that the flow water going into Pakistan will be significantly reduced as a result of their attack on Indian soil.

5. The cherry on top

At the dawn of 26th February 2019, just 12 days after the cowardly Pulwama attacks, 12 fighter aircrafts of the Indian Air Force took off from their bases and penetrated deep within the Pakistani airspace to strike the biggest JeM training camp, killing close to 300 terrorists harboured by the Pakistani state. This is being widely considered as the cherry on top in terms of all the retaliatory moves made by the Indian govt.

All this proves the onset of what can be called the new age India, an India which does not stay silent suppressed, but strikes back with adequate force when agitated.
