Many have been waiting for a Ranbir Kapoor mega movie for a while now – from the day the trailer of “Animal” was out, people had huge expectations. Despite garnering mixed to negative reviews from various sources, “Animal,” the Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed movie continues to shatter box office records with cine-goers already declaring it a “blockbuster”. “Animal” has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the second film of the year after Jawan to join the Rs 200 crore club in India. The film achieved this feat and made Rs 350 crore club worldwide within just three days of its release.
This exceptional success story defied expectations and marked an unprecedented achievement in the world of cinema.
The theatres are now experiencing an onslaught of violence, gore, and bloodshed with the release of the action-packed thriller. It’s a cinematic experience that is winning audiences’ hearts and shattering box office records each day.
The plot revolves around the intense love of a son (played by Ranbir Kapoor) for his father and two sisters, which makes him do the unimaginable when their well-being is impacted. It is purely an art of theatre that holds the movie as nothing of this sort can stand in the real world.
The screen presence of each actor is such that you can’t take your eyes off of the screen – each character has a depth of their own. Actor Anil Kapoor shines in his role as a father who never had the time for his family (read son). Bobby Deol, impressive in his role of a man obsessed with revenge, is earning rave reviews for his performance. He looks his best and can give any young actor a run for his money. Rashmika Mandanna plays her part well, while Shakti Kapoor, Prem Chopra, and Tripti Dimri have amazing supporting roles.
On its third day in theatres, the film is estimated to have earned Rs 72.50 crore in the domestic market. This reflects an 8.5% increase in daily box office earnings compared to the previous day. Consequently, Animal’s three-day domestic net collection reached Rs 202.57 crore, coming close to Jawan’s Rs 206.06 crore and surpassing Pathan’s Rs 166.75 crore.
Even as “Animal” establishes itself as a box office phenomenon, the movie has come under significant scrutiny for its portrayal of misogyny, violence, and vulgarity. A segment of the audience has vocally criticised these elements in the film.
It feels like an eternity before you step into the theatre but as time passes you won’t be able to take your eyes off the screen for even a moment. As someone who has watched the movie, I left the theatre thinking more and more about it. This movie will stay with you for some time whether you have liked it or not.
This is not something anyone would aim for in their lives – be it the problematic relation with his wife or his father and the mind less horrific killing scenes.
Actor Ranvijay Singh’s portrayal of the alpha-male archetype prompts a reevaluation of men’s mindset, drawing criticism from a significant portion of the female audience.
Notwithstanding these criticisms, what renders the film deserving of attention is the outstanding performances by the ensemble cast and the compelling storytelling crafted by director-editor Sandeep Reddy Vanga. In all honesty, the movie boasts numerous highlights and substantial revelations, and I refrain from divulging spoilers to preserve the viewer’s experience.
In summary, “Animal” offers an adrenaline rush that is bound to generate divergent opinions. Yet, one cannot overlook its entertainment value, awe-inspiring performances, and compelling storytelling.
