RCB Goes Empty-Handed in IPL, Again

Gujarat Titans landed the knockout punch to Royal Challengers Bangalore in one of the final matches of the league, making it the 16th season that the team has gone home without an IPL Trophy. The team even failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The match, initially delayed by rain and hailstorms, was held on May 21 at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. The win was very crucial for RCB to make it through, but the loss against the defending champions ended their IPL 2023 journey.

The team has made three final appearances in 2009, 2011, and 2016, losing all. This season too, Bangalore were among the favourites to win the magnificent crown but, unfortunately, couldn’t make it through.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s senior player Virat Kohli hit his seventh IPL century, breaking Chris Gayle for most hundreds in the IPL. The team and its top players are usually seen heading the IPL records chart every year- their records range from the highest runs by a team in the history of IPL to the most man of the match titles. RCB never fails to make it to the top headlines.

Some of the IPL records under the name of the RCB and its top-performing players are as follows (As per the data till the year 2023)

  • IPL Highest Score by a Team: 263/5 against Pune Warriors India
  • Most Runs in IPL History: Virat Kohli (7263 runs)
  • Most Centuries in IPL History: Virat Kohli(7)
  • IPL Most Man of the Match Titles(AB de Villiers): 25 Awards
  • Highest Individual Score in IPL (Chris Gayle): 175 runs
  • Highest innings in IPL(Chris Gayle): 175 runs with 265.15 strike rate
  • Highest Partnerships by Wicket in IPL: Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers
  • Most Runs Hit In One Over In IPL: Chris Gayle (37 runs)
  • Fastest Centuries in IPL History: Chris Gayle
  • Most Sixes In IPL History: Chris Gayle (357 sixes)
  • Highest Partnership in IPL: Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers

Yet, despite their historical benchmarks, the Royal Challengers Bangalore haven’t managed a single IPL win to their credit.

The potential reasons behind the same are speculated to be a poor middle order, death bowling issues, inconsistent form, injured players, and psychological factors. RCB captain Faf du Plessis attributed the team’s poor showing in this season to Dinesh Karthik’s poor form in the middle order.

Team Royal Challenger Bangalore has one of the most loyal fan bases. This year too, fans were disheartened after RCB were knocked out of IPL 2023.

The official Twitter of Royal Challenger Bangalore marked their exit with a thank you message to all the RCBians: Deepest gratitude to our incredible fans for standing by us through every cheer and challenge this season. No matter the ground, the weather or the result, your unwavering support has been our greatest strength. We carry your passion and love within our hearts. Thank you for believing in us.” #PlayBold #ನಮ್ಮRCB #IPL2023
