Dhoni’s Rumoured Retirement Has Left The World In A Spin

As the BCCI has made up its mind about Dhoni’s place in Indian Cricket Team, the world has started speculating Dhoni’s retirement. Everybody is under the assumption that it could be the end of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s career as a cricketer. While there is a lot of speculation about MS Dhoni’s future, the selectors,  before choosing a team for the WI tour, are still contemplating about the senior cricketer’s future.

Every professional career has an end except for sports and acting, other sports tend to leave fans broken-hearted. Cricket is the most popular sport in India and has a huge fan base.

MS Dhoni began his career in December 2004 as a wicket-keeper/batsman for India. Now, after spending 15 years playing cricket, the loss in the world cup semi-finals against New Zealand has become the reason for his retirement. Due to his weak performance during this particular game, critics blamed him for the loss.

Dhoni recently celebrated his 38th birthday. He may not sustain his position at the top until the next World Cup to be held in India in 2023. With an eye on the future and better team players, the selectors according to a source will train his replacement. The Indian selection board has already chosen Rishabh Pant as Dhoni’s replacement based on his strengths and recent extraordinary performances. The left-hander needs ample time to be ready for the next World Cup. The Indian team hopes to benefit from the selection of Rishabh Pant.

If we were to believe the rumours floating around, then this could mean the end of his career. However, nothing has been confirmed yet about his status.

While most Indians want him to retire, some believe he can still play the game.  Apart from his fans, Dhoni’s contemporaries along with most of the former cricketers believe in him.

While several voices from different parts of the world have been asking MS Dhoni to retire, he has been supported by well-known cricketers like Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Virat Kohli, Adam Gilchrist, and several others. Apart from the cricketers, most famous personalities like Lata Mangeshkar, has asked Dhoni to give up the idea of retiring.

Saurav Ganguly has said Dhoni is still one of the greatest finishers of the game. “As a cricketer, he has a lot of respect around the world and it’s not over yet. It is tough a game and yet, he performs well on the field.” It may not be a great news for his supporters, but rumours have it that this could be MS Dhoni’s last World Cup match as a player. But rejoice as nothing is clear as of now these are just rumours and we wish him luck.
